Critical Acclaim: 98 pts Wine Enthusiast; 95 pts Jeb Dunnuck; 95 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate; 95 pts Wine Spectator; 94 pts James Suckling; 93 pts Vinous.
About the Wine: Poggio Antico hand-harvested the 2019 Riserva on October 14 and 15. The wine fermented in concrete with further maceration, then rested 30 months in French oak and six months in concrete before bottling. This is a structured, ageworthy Brunello selection.
Tasting Notes: Dark fruit, violet, blood orange, savory spice and earthy detail meet bright acidity and a long, firm finish.
"Tart but ripe blackberries and the juicy, delicate florals of dark stone fruit burst on the palate" - Wine Enthusiast.
"Polished and inviting, with velvety tannins, it's a seamless and very impressive Riserva offering a long window for enjoyment" - Jeb Dunnuck.
"The bouquet is also quite complex with dried spice, cinnamon and clover backed by sweet fruit and blackberry." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
"Iron, earth, eucalyptus and orange peel notes add detail as this glides to the lingering aftertaste." - Wine Spectator.
"The supple palate has medium body, crisp acidity and velvety tannins wrapped in lots of fruit." - James Suckling.
"It's round and juicy in style, with crisp wild berry fruits elevated by nuances of candied citrus and sweet herbal tones." - Vinous.
Serving Suggestion: Pair with braised short ribs, roast lamb, wild boar ragù or aged pecorino. Decant if opening young.
Varietal: Sangiovese.
