About the Winery: Monteverro is named after the wild boar: verro is the historical regional word for “boar” - a reference to the fact that the shrubland around Capalbio has always been and is still home to many wild boars. Monteverro lies at the foot of the small medieval town of Capalbio on the southern edge of Tuscany in Maremma, a region well-known for its originality and tradition. The vineyard estate is situated in close proximity to the coast and is characterized by its unusual slopes on stony, red clay soil. Monteverro is known for its precision in viticulture and winemaking, emphasizing the unique terroir of its region. The winery is committed to producing wines that express the character and complexity of their specific vineyard origins.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes: "Complex and integrated nose of fruits like blackcurrant, red cherry and blueberries with touches of black pepper, cedar that evolves on black olive and underbrush. Balanced entrance with a silky mouthfeel lifted by a great acidity lingering on dark fruit like cassis evolving on a dense structure with chocolate, tobacco box and black cherry."
"A very classical year for Tuscany,' says enologist Matthieu of the 2018 vintage. Still full of aromatic youthful red fruits, cherry, spice and cedar, it is defined by a great balance of fresh acidity and already well integrated tannins. Although this needs more time in bottle, it has great potential. A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, matured in French oak barrels (60% new) for 20 months. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2038" - Decanter
"Aromas of blackberries, blueberries and light tar follow through to a full body with firm, chewy tannins that are polished and very pretty. Racy and intense. Solid and beautiful" - James Suckling
"A nose of macerated cherries, berry brambles and dark chocolate with aromas of soil and a flinty, metallic edge transitions into a palate that's still dense with cherries and chocolate but balanced by chalky, taut tannins and a bite of acid that brings energy to a leisurely finish." - Wine Enthusiast
