Critical Acclaim: 92 pts James Suckling; 92 pts Wilfred Wong; 90 pts Decanter.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Russet red with vivacious notes on the rim that denote its freshness despite its extensive aging both in barrels and bottles. A true mosaic of spices on the nose, making it enormously complex. A sweet, primary background also stands out with notes of ripe fruit compote and an interesting touch of licorice. Persistently lingering on the palate, shows velvety tannins, the result of its slow evolution throughout the extensive aging period. Preserving good acidity makes it balanced from beginning to end. Its enveloping nature provides a very elegant, harmonious ending.
"Nicely savory, showing good complexity, lots of ground pepper, five-spice powder, savory plums and dried oranges. Just a hint of vanilla and musk. Juicy and well-balanced with medium body, fine tannins and a lengthy finish. Drink or hold."- James Suckling.
"The 2016 Hacienda Lopez de Haro is a dark garnet, ruby color, and offers aromas of rustic earth and dried blackberries. On the palate, this wine shines with evocative flavors of tart blackberries and stone fruits, making it a desirable match with a thick slice of rare prime rib."- Wilfred Wong.
"Classic aromas with herbal notes, plums, damsons, figs, aniseed and lifted spicy notes. Supple and smooth, lovely on the palate. Silver Medal 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards."- Decanter.
Serving Suggestion: Roasted meats, traditional stews, braised legumes and aged cheeses.
