About the Winery: Founded by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine in Bouzeron and now led by Pierre de Benoist, Domaine de Villaine is an independent Côte Chalonnaise estate known for organic farming, careful cellar work, and wines that keep their vineyard character front and center.
About the Wine: Cloux is an east-facing Rully Premier Cru parcel set mid-slope on clay and limestone. The approximately 45-year-old Chardonnay vines cover 1.1 hectares, and the wine is raised for 12 to 18 months in foudre, demi-muids with about 10% new oak, and barrel. The site gives de Villaine a white Burgundy with both mineral tension and generous texture.
Tasting Notes: Peach and mandarin aromas meet subtle oak and sweet almond. The palate is fresh, saline, and layered, with ripe Chardonnay fruit followed by a refined, lightly bitter mineral finish that keeps the wine precise and mouthwatering.
Serving Suggestion: Serve cool, not ice-cold, with scallops, lobster, roast chicken, creamy mushroom dishes, or aged Comté. It is expressive now and should continue to gain harmony in the cellar.
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay.
